Vodacom Super Rugby Unlocked: Round 2 Predictions

Round 1 went largely as predicted, with most people managing 3 correct picks for 3 home wins, and well done to those that got close to the margins.

This week I expect the home win trend to continue, although the first fixture is particularly tricky to call.

Cheetahs v Bulls

The Cheetahs looked like a side with a point to prove last week, having been axed from Super Rugby and now from the Pro14. They destroyed the Pumas, would love to get one over the Bulls this weekend, and are able to name the same starting lineup. I was surprised by the Bulls’ narrow margin of victory over the Griquas, and even with Duane Vermeulen back in the team, I’m predicting a Cheetahs win. Cheetahs by 4

Griquas v Pumas

Having been thrashed in Bloemfontein, the Pumas have changed half of their team, and will be without their captain for the season. The Griquas have more continuity, home advantage, and a confidence-building losing bonus point from the opening weekend, and I think they’ll take this comfortably. Griquas by 16

Stormers v Lions

The home team looks particularly strong for this one, with a smattering of Springboks in the starting lineup, and they’ll be fired up for a win at Newlands as they make their first appearance of the competition. They have a good recent record over the Lions, and they’ll win this one too. Stormers by 13
