Super Rugby Round 2 Predictions!

Five correct predictions out of 7 in Round 1 was enough to yield a couple of yellow caps and put me into the top 15% on Superbru, beating the community average of 4.28 correct picks. The late Highlanders comeback against the Chiefs cost me, and I picked the Jaguares to beat the Lions in the final match, but we go again for Round 2 looking for the perfect seven.

Here's an overview of how Round 1 went for the Superbru community:

Well done to Rich Johns from Australia who scooped the global Yellow Cap in Round One. It seems it was a good round in general for Australians at Superbru as the leader in my 'Challenge Hutch' pool is also an Aussie - congratulations to Nathan Keating. If you're yet to join that pool and the 1,000+ people taking me on throughout this season then feel free to do so now.

Here are the fixtures for Round 2 of Super Rugby along with my picks for them.

Highlanders v Reds

The Queenslanders are the only ones we didn’t see in Round 1, but I’m not expecting big things this season. For the Highlanders, an away win at the Chiefs will give them plenty of confidence as they appear in front of their own fans, and I think they’ll win comfortably. Highlanders by 23

Sunwolves v Waratahs

The Sunwolves were beaten by 35 points at home to the Sharks, immediately proving that you shouldn’t pick them to win, and whilst I don’t think the Tahs will score quite so many this week, particularly with some rain forecast, I still expect an away win. Waratahs by 18

Crusaders v Hurricanes

The Hurricanes weren’t terribly convincing in Sydney, relying on a late score to win by a point, and they’ll find it even tougher this week. The Crusaders got their campaign underway with a victory over the Blues, and you have to back them to win in Christchurch. Crusaders by 7

Brumbies v Chiefs

Having lost at home to the Rebels, the sight of the Chiefs arriving in Canberra won’t be terribly welcome for the Brumbies. They have lost the last four in a row against them, and that’s unlikely to change this weekend, particularly with Damian McKenzie back in the fold for the Chiefs. Chiefs by 16

Sharks v Blues

After a big win over the Sunwolves, the Sharks’ campaign gets underway in earnest this weekend with a tougher fixture against the Blues. They have an excellent record against the Auckland outfit, and although the Blues look more threatening than in previous seasons, I’m leaning towards a home win. Sharks by 4

Stormers v Lions

Not a good start for the Stormers last weekend with a thumping by the Bulls at Loftus, and their off-field issues continuing to affect them. The Lions recorded their first ever win in Buenos Aires, and although the travel factor must be considered - Superbru Insights tells me they have flown 14,981km - I think the Lions will win. Lions by 9

Jaguares v Bulls

This game looks like the toughest to pick in Round 2. The Bulls were very impressive, notching up 40 points against the Stormers, whilst the Jaguares were beaten at home by the Lions. Historically the Bulls have not been a great travelling team, and the Jaguares usually win at home (except for last week!). I’m going with home advantage. Jaguares by 6

With the exception of points difference and the Bulls it's a snap. It has been 4 or 5 seasons since I last saw the Bulls play with such confidence. New coach, new approach, I hope the Bulls go all the way this season. They need it, SA rugby needs it.

Highlanders win of course but 23 is very optimistic. Blues thumped the Chiefs in a warm up but I'm going to hope and pray the Sharks can overcome them. Also the Stormers will be tough at home especially licking their wounds. I'm going Stormers by 6.

Agreed but the Bulls travel badly and the Jaguars will come back with a bang although life after Sanchez is an evolvement. Still I have to back the home team! Jaguars by 6! 21 Feb 17:26

WEll James, im always a slow starter , and latter i will creep back on the leaderboard , i think im doing well in the Six Nations daily fantasy this eason , im holding thumps, it is very impossible to be nr 1 globlal leaderboard. Bulls will never win in Argentina. 24 Feb 21:11

The Jaguares doesn't look like the same team they were last year and in contrast the Bulls seem very eager to show that they can do it on the road. I'm going to stick my neck out and predict Bulls by 15.

Blues over Sharks. Brumbies for upset.

Second week in a row the Jaguares will prove you wrong. I don't think they have the cohesion and bite the had last year. The Stormers were woeful last week and would probably go down by as many points to the Lions (this coming from a Stormers fan). The Hurricanes vs. Crusaders match is the difficult one to pick. The 'Saders did not impress me last week. They were outplayed by the Blues for the majority of the match and were lucky to get the win. And therefore I am also not confident in a Sharks win. The Blues is a bit different from last year. The upset to pick if you already need a few points would be the Reds over the Highlanders. We don't know what the Reds will bring to the game this year.

Looks like straight easy picks from the get go but a couple of upsets can see some of the Bru's picking up a max of 4 points this weekend. I've picked the Bulls, Sharks and Lions to make SA proud this weekend. But not by much.

Far too early to make accurate picks. but Highlanders, Waratahs by 20 plus, Chiefs, Lions and possibly Crusaders by 10 plus, Sharks and Bulls by less than 10. Based on reading various sites, checking weather and matching off starting XVs player v player. I try to keep the emotion out of it. Three of last weeks games were coin tosses I think only 2 will be this week so many will get 6/7 and maybe 20% will get 7/7. Going large or very small margins helps win your average sized or small pools but costs you globally remember.

Huh , how can Reds lead HIghlanders in 64 minute , there is something bizare about this game , that is my opinion , so how da heck did they beat Chiefs .

The Blues showed promise last week, so I think the Sharks could find themselves in a bit of trouble this week.

Hi hutch my picks are similar to yours except Jaguares vs Bulls I've backed bulls in the hopes of the bulls breaking the losing streak in Argentina
