Super Rugby Predictions: 26-27 March

It was 3 correct predictions out of 4 for me last weekend, with only the Chiefs’ surprise comeback win at the Hurricanes scuppering a perfect set of picks.

Not to worry, because the next four matches looks like a guaranteed four from four.

Here are my Super Rugby predictions for this weekend.

Super Rugby Aotearoa

Highlanders v Hurricanes: The ’Canes managed to blow a winning position last weekend, and now sit bottom of the log without a single win. The Highlanders have made a major tactical change by moving fly-half Josh Ioane to full-back, but with the benefit of a bye week with a bit of extra practice, I’m backing the home team. Highlanders by 6

Chiefs v Blues: This is a tricky fixture to pick, after that win in Wellington that will have delivered some much-needed confidence for the Chiefs. I’d be tempted to pick a home win, but they have lost a couple of players to injury, and I’m cautious of getting too carried away given their long losing streak prior to last weekend. Blues by 2

Super Rugby AU

Brumbies v Force: Things are much more clear cut in Australia, where the Brumbies will thrash the Force. The visitors are missing Rob Kearney and Richard Kahui in the backs, and the Brumbies will have had two weeks to stew on their defeat to the Reds last time out. Expect a backlash. Brumbies by 16

Waratahs v Reds: This is as easy as the Superbru streak makes it look, with the winless Waratahs up against the unbeaten Reds and surely there’s only one winner here. The Reds won the reverse fixture by 34 points, and it’s probably sensible to predict a slightly smaller margin for this match in Sydney. Reds by 21
