Ryder Cup 2018: Preview and Predictions

Tiger Woods’ return to winning ways after 5 years was nothing short of remarkable, and the timing has only served to increase excitement for the Ryder Cup this week.

Whilst Tiger’s return to form will boost morale in the US camp, Justin Rose will bring plenty of confidence to Team Europe having clinched the FedEx Cup and pocketed $10m in the process.

Our Ryder Cup fantasy game will make the action even more exciting. You’ll need to pick four players for each session, with two sessions on each of Friday and Saturday comprising Fourballs and Foursomes, followed by the Singles session on Sunday.

You’ll win points if your players win their matches, and you’ll also be rewarded for the margin of victory. It’s quick and simple and will add an extra dimension to your enjoyment of the tournament - why not set up a pool and challenge your friends?

Players to watch

Pairings and matches for the Friday morning session will only be confirmed at the opening ceremony on Thursday, and it’s worth seeing who is up against whom before locking in your Superbru picks, but here are few players that could star for their respective teams.

Justin Rose: Rose reached Number 1 in the world this month, and although he slipped back to 2nd last weekend, he’s primed to play a key role in Europe’s campaign. With the experience of four Ryder Cups behind him, Rose can be a leader both on the course and off it, and could be reunited with Henrik Stenson in the Fourballs and Foursomes. Rose was born in Johannesburg and could be one to get behind for the South African contingent on Superbru.

John Rahm: Ryder Cup history features a list of outstanding Spanish players, and Rahm is the latest of whom big things are expected. He’s had an outstanding start to his professional career, with four wins in just 38 tournaments, and I’d like to see him paired with Sergio Garcia, which make for a fun match to follow.

Tiger Woods: Tiger’s Ryder Cup record is very poor compared to his long list of achievements in stroke play tournaments. He has played in 7 Ryder Cups, the most recent of which was 2012, but has lost more matches than he has won (17 to 13). But he’s a changed man, and that tournament win will give him the confidence that he’s back in the elite echelons of the golfing world. Nobody on the European Team will really want to play against him, and I suspect he’ll win more than he loses this time out.

Patrick Reed: Reed was the highest-scoring American in the 2016 Ryder Cup, and he fired up the crowd creating a hostile atmosphere for the visiting Europeans, relishing the team environment and driving the US to victory. He’s an interesting figure, and by all accounts not the most popular on tour, but like Ian Poulter for Europe, he seems to thrive as part of the team. His partnership with Jordan Spieth was outstanding last time out, and they will likely be reunited on Friday.

My prediction: I'm going with my heart on this one...Europe to regain the trophy.

Match ups are always tough in this format - I go with momentum from last week if possible. That does point to US winning overall

Hi Ruud, the matches for this afternoon are still yet to be announced which is why they aren't visible just yet. There is a very short time period between the matches being announced and the actual tee times which is the reason for us adopting this format. This way, people can make their picks in advance and change them if necessary as opposed to having to be available to make picks in that short time period. 28 Sep 09:48
