World Cup Day 18 Preview

Eng v Fra and NZ v Italy cancelled, other matches going ahead

Welcome to your daily World Cup Predictor update, where we review the last day's action and look ahead to the next matches.

Argentina, Scotland and Wales all won on Day 17, and there's a day off on Thursday before the Wallabies are in action on Friday.

There has also been some major news with the cancellation of both England v France and New Zealand v Italy due to Typhoon Hagibis - these games will be treated as null and void in our Predictor game. No points are earned, even though the matches are officially recorded as a draw for the tournament's purposes.

We've written up an article explaining things here.

Argentina

USA
The Pumas enjoyed a big win over the USA as they won their final match of the tournament by 30 points. Over 99% of people picked the win, but the margin was a little larger than anticipated.

Russia
It was a similar story here as Scotland thrashed Russia, with George Horne scoring a hat-trick and Adam Hastings claiming two tries of his own. The average overall pick was Scotland by 25, so well done to anyone that managed a Margin Point here!

Wales
29 - 17
Fiji
Fiji gave Wales a real fright with a combination of physical power and attacking flair, which saw them race to an early lead. Wales hung on, and Josh Adams scored a hat-trick as they just about did enough to win, and they should now go on to beat Uruguay and go through as Pool D winners.

Georgia
This match is going ahead in Shizuoka on Friday. There are several second-choice players featuring in the Wallaby lineup, but they should still beat Georgia, who have been defeated heavily in the two matches they have lost so far.

Good luck with your picks!

No, it doesn't count on superbru at all, so no points for these games! Of course its going to cause havoc in the fantasy pools. Sounds like the England France and New Zealand Italy games will be called off! 10 Oct 05:42

@Superbru
???? A reminder given current rumours about #RWC2019 games potentially being cancelled this weekend:

If a match is called off, it is treated as null and void at Superbru. No points are earned, even if the match is officially recorded as a draw for the tournament's purposes.
I've copied this from the Superbru News column. If you click on news and then page down a bit you'll find it there! 10 Oct 06:36

In a tournament as important as this matches should never be abandoned or cancelled.
There surely is enough time and THE WILL to postpone them.
It is extremely unfair on sides that were in with a chance to reach the quarter finals which they can now wave goodbye.
