Premier League: Team of Round 24

Round 24 of the Premier League will be remembered for being very tricky in our predictor game, and as you'd expect, fantasy players have also struggled in this round as a result of the unpredictability.

The community average has decreased to 42.1 from 51.2 in Round 23, as Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool all dropped points. Here's your round-up of the R24 TOTR which makes for interesting viewing this week!

Community average score in Round 24: 42.1
Community best in Round 24: 79
TOTR score: 126
Theoretical best legal score: 124

Defence

Artur Boruc is this week's TOTR goalkeeper meaning we have a chance to immediately discuss the round's most surprising scoreline - Bournemouth 4-0 Chelsea! An incredible second half performance from the Cherries means they are the most heavily represented club in this TOTR with Boruc picking up 8 points thanks to making more than 6 saves to earn a clean sheet. The Polish GK is yet to concede since taking Asmir Begovic's spot in the Bournemouth starting XI so it's safe to assume he'll be in between the sticks again against Cardiff this weekend.

In contrast to the high-scoring back five we saw in R23, this week's TOTR contains just three defenders with each of them scoring a fairly normal 7 points. As the highest scorers across the season so far, Zouma, Keane and Jonny make this TOTR though other players to score 7 in this round included Seamus Coleman and Nathaniel Clyne.

A player that Liverpool must regret allowing on loan given their current injury list, Clyne looks like a fairly good pick at Bournemouth whenever they have games against teams outside of the top six. The attacking style the Cherries play with means like Nathan Ake, Clyne always has a chance of scoring points in the offensive third which counters the considerable risk of Bournemouth conceding in each game. For similar reasons, Wolves' Jonny (and fellow wing-back Doherty) have scored well throughout this season.

Midfield

This week's midfield four continues the theme of this TOTR as a whole in that it's filled with players who aren't necessarily frequent names in the TOTR but players who everyone is likely to have considered due to their status as leading players for their respective clubs. Of course, Pogba and Son are the recent exception to that theme given the incredible form each of them have shown since mid December.

Like Matt Ritchie who also scored eight points in this round but narrowly misses out on a starting spot, both Pogba and Son scored in R24 to provide the bulk of their points tallies. Joao Moutinho (9) features after managing two assists in Wolves' 3-0 win over West Ham but this week's best performing midfielder was Bournemouth's David Brooks who once again proved himself to look a really promising player and a superb fantasy option against Chelsea. Brooks scored and made an assist in that game at the Vitality to take his season tally to a very respectable 85 points.

Strikers

As you can see, in a week where points weren't too easy to find, it was the strikers that delivered in this TOTR and if you picked one or two of these guys then you likely did OK in Round 24. The ideal captain this week is Josh King who was directly involved in three of Bournemouth's four goals against Chelsea.

King is joined by two 'target man' like strikers who stand as the main, perhaps overly relied on, attacking threats for their respective clubs. Aleksandar Mitrovic and Glenn Murray both bagged a brace in the same game at Craven Cottage as Fulham came from 2-0 behind to win 4-2 and pick up three very important points. You probably don't need telling that these two are great 'differential' picks to the more popular strikers in a week that sees them play favourable opposition as if Fulham or Brighton are to score, there's always a good chance it will be Mitrovic or Murray doing so.

Premier League ideal 5-a-side teams by daily round during R24:

Tuesday: Patricio/Pickford, 7-point defender, Moutinho, Ritchie, Mitrovic/Murray (43 points)
Wednesday: Boruc, Clyne, Ward-Prowse, Brooks, King (51 points)

The next round of Premier League action begins very soon following this midweek round as Tottenham host Newcastle in the opening game of R25 on Saturday. Be aware that R25 is a DOUBLE GAMEWEEK for Manchester City and Everton meaning their players should perhaps be prioritised and there will be a four daily fantasy rounds in our 5-a-side game - Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Wednesday.
