Premier League: Team of Round 22

A noticeably lower scoring week than Round 21, Round 22 of the Premier League played out with the average bru scoring 46 points in our full fantasy game as Tottenham and Arsenal failed to score, Liverpool only found the net once and Sergio Aguero was only on the bench for Manchester City.

Here's your usual Premier League fantasy round-up including the R22 TOTR.

Community average score in Round 22: 46.3
Community best in Round 20: 74
TOTR score: 108
Theoretical best legal score: 108

Defence

Those of you who watched Manchester United's 1-0 win against Tottenham will know that David de Gea not only deserves his TOTR place, but put in a performance that was probably worthy of more fantasy points! The Spaniard made an incredible 11 saves to keep a clean sheet that has pushed his team in to joint fifth place on the Premier League table. Fantastic if you picked de Gea or any United defenders, but very annoying for the many that own Harry Kane!

In front of de Gea in this TOTR is a back three that all scored very nicely with Cardiff's Sol Bamba joining Everton duo Lucas Digne and Kurt Zouma. Bamba picked up his points by making more than six interceptions and three tackles in an impressive display that ensured a 0-0 draw and denied Huddersfield a win they probably deserved. A day later, Digne (assist) and Zouma (goal) combined for Everton's opening goal against Bournemouth to earn their points in a 2-0 win.

In terms of the best defenders throughout this season so far in our fantasy games, Virgil van Dijk has now joined Andy Robertson at the top of the points list following Liverpool's clean sheet at Brighton. Injury news today suggest right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is now likely to be out for around a month for the Reds so expect the top scoring pair's popularity to increase even further as people understandably look for the most likely Liverpool starters for their backline.

Midfield

As you can see, each of the midfielders in this Team of the Round bagged 8 points. Willian, Pedro, Rice and Salah all scored a goal in R22 to help their teams to 1-goal wins as well as picking up a bonus point each. Willian and Pedro's goals came either side of a Ciaran Clark header as Chelsea defeated Newcastle 2-1, a Mo Salah penalty was the difference in Liverpool's game at Brighton and Declan Rice scored his first West Ham goal as they picked up a very impressive 1-0 victory over Arsenal.

Salah's goal takes him even clearer out in front as the highest scoring player in our fantasy game so far this season, with third place Harry Kane supposedly now set for a spell on the sidelines with injury. Eden Hazard is second after he picked up an assist for Willian's goal vs. Newcastle.

Strikers

If you're a 5-a-side fantasy player here at Superbru, you'll know that Gabriel Jesus was the man you needed to quickly replace Aguero with in your team following the lineup announcements! Those that did were rewarded well as the Brazilian scored a brace to manage 12 points in R22 - more than any other player.

As two of the only other three strikers to score a goal in this round, Shane Long and Marcus Rashford also feature in this TOTR with 7 points. The third striker to do so was Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin who came off the bench to seal the Toffees' win over Bournemouth meaning he scored just six points rather than 7. It is Marcus Rashford who stands out as an especially good longer-term option in this TOTR given his recent form (11, 8, 7) and supposed promotion to Manchester United's first choice striker under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Premier League ideal 5-a-side teams by daily round during R22:

Saturday: Etheridge, Bamba, Rice, Pedro, Long (39 points)
Sunday: de Gea, Digne, Pogba, Lookman, Rashford (38 points)
Monday: Ederson, Walker, Silva, Sane, Jesus (33 points)

The next Premier League round begins on Saturday as Wolves take on Leicester in a 12:30 kick-off. The round takes place across just two days with 8 games on the Saturday and two taking place on Sunday - Huddersfield vs. Manchester City and Fulham vs. Spurs.

Let's face it, most would have only considered 4 of this TOTR XI. Rashford, Salah, Willian or Pedro & Bamba. I few might have picked Digne for his Free-kicks. Backing that Everton defence is sooo risky. I'm not sure how many were forced into keeping De Gea or just don't bother to check who & where teams play, so they got very lucky that De Gea had one of those 'Magic' days. That's 9 points on my bench!

I stupidly sold Van Dijk so I could add Mane in case Liverpool scored 5 like in last season's fixture there. I also hoped Brighton would score at home like usual. Pretty soft pen and how did Salah miss from 5 yards at the end? But of course. Its because I made him my Capt!

Great summary Jack as usual btw.
