Premier League: Team of Round 14

Round 14 of the Premier League was a belter with goals aplenty, a couple of big upsets in our predictor and a giant derby day that didn't disappoint. The average score managed by brus in our 11-a-side fantasy game also continued it's rise from Round 13 to 55.3 following attacking returns from heavily selected players such as Eden Hazard, Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane.

This week's Team of the Round is an interesting one with several players earning their first TOTR cap. Perhaps slightly surprisingly, Crystal Palace and West Ham are the two clubs that have more than one player in this week's XI after the Eagles picked up a much needed win over Burnley and the Hammers stunned nearly all of us with a comprehensive 3-0 win at Newcastle. The Round 14 best performer and ideal captain for the weekend was Arsenal's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who was electric in Sunday's North London derby.

Defence

It may not have been the most entertaining derby of Sunday's triple header, but Liverpool and Everton put on a great show following the NLD in what looked set to be one of the most entertaining 0-0 draws in recent memory but we all know what happened in the final minute! Thankfully for Liverpool, the GK error was at the Everton end meaning Alisson and the Liverpool back four maintained a clean sheet to each score nicely in our fantasy games.

In front of Alisson in this TOTR is a back three that's headed by Fabian Balbuena who added to his clean sheet at Newcastle with tackle and interception points. Balbuena has been a frequent starter for West Ham so is worth looking at if you're after a Hammers defender which may not be as crazy as it sounds given their upcoming fixtures. A fantasy favourite, Aaron Wan-Bissaka joins Balbuena in the backline following his clean sheet against Burnley, with Leicester's Ricardo Pereira the final defender following Leicester's 2-0 win over Watford. Both AWB and Pereira are strong defensive fantasy picks thanks to their attacking ability as full backs.

Midfield

This week's TOTR midfield can't quite compare with the Round 13 five that all managed double-figure scores but both Gundogan and Pedro were options that many of you will have considered in our 5-side fantasy game given that both were known starters ahead of the Saturday and Sunday respective deadlines. Both players managed a goal as their teams picked up comfortable home victories.

Brighton's Solly March would have been a more 'outside of the box' pick as he played a key part in helping the Seagulls capitalise on a Huddersfield red card with two assists. It's Andros Townsend who stands out as this week's top scoring midfielder though as the Englishman continues to pick up fantasy points despite most brus looking more towards Wilfried Zaha if at all interested in the Crystal Palace squad.

Townsend had a goal and an assist against Burnley to ensure Palace built on a good draw at Old Trafford with a home win. The Eagles have some fixtures they'll be competitive in over the next few weeks and if opposition teams continue to focus on Zaha as the player they need to shut down then scoring opportunities may continue to fall Townsend's way.

Strikers

It's not often the case, but the two top scorers in this week's Team of the Round are both forwards as Aubameyang and 'Chicharito' Hernandez each managed a brace for their respective clubs in Round 14. The additional 4 points that Aubameyang managed over Hernandez are down to making three tackles and his assist for Lucas Torreira. A big game against Manchester United at Old Trafford is next for Arsenal, but given the striker's track record of consistently scoring across many seasons, Aubameyang is never a bad pick.

The final striker and member of this TOTR is also interesting as Marcus Rashford managed 8 points after assisting both goals in Manchester United's 2-2 draw at Southampton. After being heavily criticised for his lack of finishing against Young Boys in the Champions League, Rashford put in a very strong performance against the Saints with the kind of work rate Jose Mourinho is fond of. Another start against Arsenal is perhaps likely, but given United's current form, picking any of their players always feels like a risk. That said, they usually turn up against Arsenal!

Premier League ideal 5-a-side teams by round this weekend:

Friday: Etheridge, Doherty, Arter/Moutinho/Ralls, Hoilett, Jimenez (20 points)
Saturday: Fabianski, Balbuena, Gundogan, Townsend, Hernandez (56 points)
Sunday: Alisson/Kepa, any Liverpool or Chelsea starting defender, Ramsey, Pedro, Aubameyang (45 points)

Feel free to let me know how you got on in each of our fantasy games this past weekend in the comments. Make sure you don't forget to make all of your Superbru picks for the additional midweek round of games that begins tomorrow.
