Premier League Predictions: Round 35

An extra-large 14-game round of Premier League football takes place across Easter in the coming days and it's set to be a very decisive round not only at Superbru but in the title race, battle for top four and relegation fight. All eyes will be on Manchester City as they face Tottenham (H) and Manchester United (A) in the same round. If they are to slip and hand Liverpool a direct path to the title, this could well be the week.

After another average predictor round last week, I'm playing for pride in a fair few of my Superbru pools but I'm still keen to get as high up the global leaderboard as I can in the final weeks. Things have been going far better for me in the fantasy and particularly the 5-a-side fantasy though and this round will be especially significant in those tournaments!

Here are my picks for Round 35.

Manchester City vs. Tottenham

It's really hard to tell how either of these teams will perform after such an intense and emotional game on Wednesday. That match was an incredible watch but I expect this one to be lower scoring as a result with both sides playing more cautiously. It's City who have the far better squad so I expect them to bounce back, especially with the Premier League now their primary focus. Prediction: Manchester City 2-0 Tottenham

Bournemouth vs. Fulham

Both of these teams caused my Superbru some problems last week but it's Bournemouth you have to back here. Fulham are still yet to win away this season and whilst it's possible now that they have no pressure on them, you'd certainly expect the Cherries to pick up three points. Fraser and Wilson were back combining to great effect last week and that could well continue. Prediction: Bournemouth 3-1 Fulham

Huddersfield vs. Watford

Huddersfield are yet to show that they can pull off the kind of consolation win that Fulham did last week and Watford have been strong. Even with 10 men against Arsenal, the Hornets really threatened and deserved a point at least. I'm backing them to win despite Deeney being suspended - the returning Gerard Deulofeu will likely partner Andre Gray instead. Prediction: Huddersfield 0-2 Watford

West Ham vs. Leicester

I can see goals in this one. Both teams will have a go and we've seen plenty of open games at the London stadium so far this season. Incredibly, there hasn't been a draw in the Premier League for over a month now! Does that mean it's silly to pick one here or are we overdue? I'm banking on the latter. Prediction: West Ham 2-2 Leicester

Wolves vs. Brighton

You have to fear for Brighton after that home loss to Cardiff. Hughton's side haven't scored a goal for ages and this isn't an easy place to find one. Wolves' record against the poorer teams remains a concern but they need to bounce back from last week's loss at Southampton. Raul Jimenez looks like a great fantasy option for the double gameweek. Prediction: Wolves 1-0 Brighton

Newcastle vs. Southampton

I'm struggling with this one a little. Newcastle's loss against Palace is a concern but then they went and won at the King Power last week! Southampton have been impressive but this won't be easy and neither side will want to lose in case Cardiff do manage another result or two. This one could play out pretty evenly as a result and I'm backing a second draw of the round. Prediction: Newcastle 1-1 Southampton

Everton vs. Manchester United

Everton ruined their good run of wins with a surprise loss at Fulham last week but does that make them more dangerous in this game as they look to bounce back? Goodison will be well up for this match against United who simply need to win if they want to keep their top four fight going but they've looked pretty average for weeks now. After their ordinary form and that battering in the Nou Camp I can see Solskjaer making some changes for this one to kick his team back into life for the run-in. I'm going for a narrow away win. Prediction: Everton 1-2 Manchester Utd

Arsenal vs. Crystal Palace

I was very impressed with Arsenal in midweek at Napoli and even with the changes they're going to have to now make for this game, I seem them defeating Palace comfortably at the Emirates. Emery's maintained and perhaps even improved the Gunners' good home form and 2-0 has been a pretty common scoreline for them so lets go with that.Prediction: Arsenal 2-0 Crystal Palace

Cardiff vs. Liverpool

After their result at Brighton, Cardiff's fans will be right up for this and I think there will be some genuine belief that they can trouble Liverpool. I myself think that they can give the Reds a scare, but little more than that. It's looking likely that Klopp's side will win all of their remaining games, meaning it's just a question of whether or not City do the same if they're to win the title. Though City's lack of a UCL semi-final may be seen as a slight advantage, there's no chance a lack of focus will be what costs Liverpool this competition. Prediction: Cardiff 1-3 Liverpool

Chelsea vs. Burnley

Burnley have been scoring in the majority of their recent games and I feel they can score at Stamford Bridge but that still may not be enough for a point. Chelsea's best shot at Champions League qualification now looks like the Europa League but they should win this one anyway as a win at Old Trafford next week would maintain their chances of qualifying via the top four. Sarri played a decent team on Thursday night in that strange match with Slavia Prague but there's a decent time to rest between that match and a Monday kick-off. Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Burnley

Tuesday

As usual with these double fixture rounds, I don't make my picks for the additional games just yet but I'll likely be picking a home win for Tottenham and the same for Watford although a win for Southampton at St James' may have me leaning towards a point or more for the Saints. It will be interesting to see how Watford get on without Deeney at Huddersfield too.

Wednesday

Wolves vs. Arsenal will be quite a good game and yet it's a mere undercard to the Manchester derby! I think Wolves could well beat the Gunners at Molineux and will likely pick them for that one while I can't see United stopping City. The suggestions Solskjaer's side will just roll over in order to prevent Liverpool winning the league are exaggerated, but this game isn't as important to them as their clash with Chelsea a few games later.

Haha, thanks for the heads up Gavin! Update is coming through. An annoying reminder left in from last week's article that I had the Watford game wrong! 20 Apr 07:32

Can't disagree with most of your picks but I'm backing Westham and Newcastle to win as they both looked very good in their last games.
