F1: 2019 season begins this weekend!

Season preview

The 2019 season is upon us and with plenty of intrigue and optimism up and down the paddock. Winter testing offered a glimpse as to a pecking order but that reality will only come to light at the first race in Melbourne, the traditional curtain-raiser of the F1 calendar.

The reigning champions Mercedes face arguably their biggest threat to date in the turbo-hybrid era from formidable rivals Ferrari and a newly-motivated Red Bull powered this season by Honda engines. Could we have a 3-way title battle between Hamilton,Vettel and Verstappen? The prospect of which would excite fans across the board. Who will be the dark horses this season, could Alfa Romeo, Haas or Toro Rosso claim that crown? How will Leclerc and Gasly fair after their respective promotions?

It promises to be a fascinating season with plenty of drama and twists and turns along the way.

Australian GP

Last season Vettel got off to a flying start around Albert Park to claim victory for Ferrari, ahead of main rival Hamilton and then team-mate Raikkonen. With Ferrari most people's favourites going into the opener the smart money would be on the German once more as he looks to make it a hat-trick of victories down under.

Can his young upstart of a team-mate Leclerc spring a surprise and lay down a marker early on? Or will Hamilton continue where he left off last season and make an early statement in his bid for a 6th world title?

My podium prediction: 1. Hamilton, 2. Verstappen, 3. Gasly

Just hoping the cars will be better and competitive, so F1 can be about the drivers and not the cars. Past few years the only interesting thing about F1 was the battle for the 7th place and below.
