Currie Cup: Round 8 Predictions

The Vodacom Super Rugby tournament magically transforms into the Carling Currie Cup this weekend, and whilst there are one or two subtle changes to team names, it’s pretty much the same players that will be taking to the field.

Can the Bulls make a charge for a second trophy?

Here are my Currie Cup predictions for this weekend.

Sharks v Pumas

The Sharks have been slightly underwhelming in their last two wins over the Cheetahs and Griquas, but I think they’ll win this fairly comfortably. The Pumas have only won one fixture so far, and were beaten by 23 points by the Sharks in their own backyard just a few weeks ago. I suspect it will be slightly closer this time. Sharks by 16

Griquas v Lions

The Griquas are bottom of the log with 6 defeats in a row, and it’s a slightly unfortunate position at the very beginning of the Currie Cup. The Lions will be too strong for them here too, the same side that put 60 points on them a few weeks ago. Lions by 18

Western Province v Bulls

This is a tricky one to complete the round, with the newly crowned ‘Super Rugby’ champions travelling to Cape Town to face Western Province. They have a poor record at Newlands, and even though they won the reverse fixture by no fewer than 33 points, I’m tipping a home win here. Siya Kolisi is back, and home advantage is always key for the Stormers. Western Province by 2
