The Superbru Herald - Superbru News

Coming up this month on Superbru: March

Now that we've had plenty more tournaments begin during February, the Superbru dashboard is starting to look nice and packed for a lot of us as we enter one of the busiest months of the sporting calendar.

In addition to the new tournaments I'm about to run through below, March will include plenty of drama in our ongoing events including the next knockout rounds in the Champions League/Europa League, a few more Test cricket matches and (hopefully) the Six Nations finale.

The Champions Cup and Challenge Cup will also be updated this month after EPRC confirmed that those tournaments will be moving straight to Round of 16 knockout stages rather than completing group games due to the disruption caused by the coronavirus. The draw for those Round of 16 games is on March 9th and our games will be updated shortly afterwards.

Looking more long-term, news regarding this summer's major events looks relatively encouraging at the moment. Plans for Euro '2020' continue and while UEFA are currently sticking with their optimistic aim of hosting the events across 12 cities in 12 different countries, reports suggest the UK will be in a position to host matches that aren't able to go ahead in some of those cities. The UK is also beginning to appear as the most likely place to host this year's Lions 'tour' against South Africa. Far from ideal, but we are of course all just keen to see the Springboks in action again after winning the RWC!

If you have any questions about a tournament, feel free to leave them in the comments. Here's the info on this month's new tournaments and the links you need to join each of them. If you're reading this on our app, in case you aren't already aware, you can join any of these tournaments by returning to the home picks page and then tapping the plus icon in the top right corner of your screen.

Thursday 11 March: NRL Tipping

First up this month we have the 2021 NRL season beginning on March 11th. Like many of the tournaments starting this month, last season's NRL campaign was significantly disrupted by COVID-19 so hopefully we'll see a smoother, more consistent format this time around. Certain fixture/venue changes are likely given the short and sharp lockdowns we've seen now and then in Australia to keep the pandemic under control.

Melbourne Storm were the eventual winners in 2020 as they defeated Penrith 20-26 in the Grand Final. To kick-off this season, Melbourne will take on the Rabbitohs at AAMI Park.

Thursday 11 March: Players Championship

Within hours of that NRL opener, our first golf tournament of the year will begin on Superbru as the Players Championship gets underway at TPC Sawgrass.

The 2020 tournament was cancelled after the opening round due to COVID-19 so the most recent champion is still Rory McIlroy after his 2019 win. Obviously, the big news in the golf world at the moment is the horrible car accident Tiger Woods was involved in last week meaning he of course won't be involved. Picks will be open with the complete bands of players you can select later this week.

Thursday 18 March: AFL Tipping

Like last year, a week after the NRL begins, the 2021 AFL season will start. Richmond won their 13th Premiership in 2020 and will kick-off the new season against Carlton. Dates and times for the opening 6 rounds have been provided but the rest of the season is 'TBC' in order to allow for flexible scheduling should we see further state border closures etc. in Australia.

Saturday 20 March: Major League Rugby

Next up, a tournament that couldn't take place at all last year because of the pandemic! Major League Rugby returns this year and it'll be interesting to see how things play out with lots of new players and even some new teams involved.

The 'LA Giltinis' have taken the headlines as far as the new team names go with Chris Robshaw, Adam Ashley-Cooper and DTH van der Merwe a few of the notable players set to feature in the league.

Friday 26 March: Super League

The new Super League season begins at the end of this month with fixture details for the first two rounds now confirmed. Round 1 will be played with all fixtures at Headingley while Round 2 will be played at St Helens.

Our predictor game for the fresh campaign will be live and available to join very soon. Last year, St Helens won a very dramatic Grand Final against Wigan Warriors with a winning try just after the hooter.

Weekend of Sunday March 28: Motorsport begins

The final weekend of March will see both F1 and MotoGP begin their 2021 calendars. Last year, these were perhaps our most disturbed tournaments in terms of a start date as the planned Australian F1 GP was cancelled at the very last-minute with the first Grand Prix of the year eventually happening months later.

So this year, we're hoping for more 'normal' tournament launches! The F1 calendar begins with the Bahrain GP this year while MotoGP will start in Qatar.

You can join our predictor games via the links below. For F1, our focus is firmly on the predictor this year with our 'F1 Fantasy' game not continuing in 2021.

We hope you're all keeping safe and well. Enjoy this month's sport and if a few of these fresh tournaments are of interest, good luck with your picks!
