Changes to motorsport predictor scoring
We are excited to announce some changes to our F1 and MotoGP Predictor games.
So it was clearly an advantage to pick before qualifying, picking up the Early Bru Points, and this brings us to the other factor to consider for F1 - the predictability of each race.
Of the 21 F1 Grands Prix in 2016, Lewis Hamilton won 10, Nico Rosberg won 9, and Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen won one each. This meant that the differentiation in scoring was largely down to your accuracy of picking the drivers in 3rd to 10th.
In our scoring changes, we have tried to model what's important, and how we tend to follow motorsport. And we are also retaining the Early Bru Point (EBP), which is designed to compensate those that aren't able to make picks after qualifying, whilst offering a tactical risk and reward consideration for those that are.
So the scoring system for 2017 is as follows:
Take a look at the Play page and the Scoring System pages for more details.
Please note that we don't make scoring system changes lightly, and we analyse reams of data from previous seasons, constantly striving to make Superbru games as fun and fair as possible.
Let us know if you have any thoughts at this stage, and hopefully this will make for more exciting F1 and MotoGP seasons ahead!
Update - 0.5pt bonus for exact positions between 4th and 10th: this was added after initial feedback from the audience.
Why was change needed?
There were a few issues with the old system, including not being able to change picks once they were made, only being able to pick Pole Position if you made all your picks before qualifying, and the relative luck involved in predicting the exact finishing positions of the whole of the Top 10.Changing Picks
You can now change your picks at any time, unless you have locked them to see your pool mates' picks. This means that you can now deal with a driver who drops out after you've picked him, or tweak your picks if a massive weather system is coming in and you're confident that it will change the way the race turns out. Or maybe you just want to play tactically, getting the chance to pick pole and then adjusting your picks after you know the starting grid. Just be aware that if you change your picks after qualifying starts, you'll lose your Early Bru Point.Scoring
Looking at last year's data, we can see that 82% of people made picks before qualifying, and that people that mostly picked before qualifying made up 95% of the Top 500 positions. So it was clearly an advantage to pick before qualifying, picking up the Early Bru Points, and this brings us to the other factor to consider for F1 - the predictability of each race.

So the scoring system for 2017 is as follows:
- 2pt EBP for submitting all your picks before qualifying (although if you change any picks after qualifying starts, you will forfeit the EBP)
- 1pt Pole Position
- 1pt Points Finishers - per driver that you pick that finishes in the top 10, irrespective of order
- 1pt Bonus per driver in an exact podium position
- 0.5 pt Bonus per driver in an exact position from 4th to 10th (* added after feedback from users)
- 2pt Podium Bonus if you pick all three podium finishers, irrespective of order
- 1pt Fastest Lap

We'll confirm later today. Any other opinions are welcome.
I would like to add a further suggestion. As some others have made a further point that some real F1 fans have a fair idea as to who will be in those positions, I personally feel gratified just to have them in the 4 - 10 positions. Consequently, I suggest that there should have some consolation for being one-off from the exact pick again, I.E. receive 0.25 bonus pts. for picking 8th when the actual place was 9th. If I remember correctly I had picked 5th - 9th positions, just one place off the actual positions. I know it would have only been one extra point by my suggestion but there would have been some satisfaction from being close! Just another suggestion to consider Hutch, please. Thanks in advance for your time to consider it.
