Champions League: Round 4 Predictions

It's time for Round 4 of our Champions League predictor which is an interesting round since it includes the reverse fixtures of each Round 3 game. This can arguably help Superbru players since we have a recent meeting to help judge each pick though as we know with the Champions League, it's rarely predictable!

Chelsea's win at Ajax and Inter's home victory over Dortmund were standout results in the last round, can they now each manage a double by beating them again? Here are my thoughts on each of this week's matches.

Barcelona v Slavia Prague

Slavia put in a decent display against Barca at home but you'd expect things to be more difficult for them at the Camp Nou. The hosts are coming off the back of a poor result against Levante at the weekend but I think that arguably makes them more dangerous in this game as they look to make things right. Slavia may manage a goal but they'd do well to replicate the point they got in their last UCL away game at the San Siro in Round 1. Prediction: 3-1

Zenit v RB Leipzig

This is a tricky one. Leipzig had been going through a tricky patch but their 2-1 win in the reverse of this fixture has helped them return to form and they went ballistic with an 8-0 Bundesliga win at the weekend. Timo Werner managed a hat-trick of goals and a hat-trick of assists in that game, imagine the fantasy points he'll pick up tonight with a repeat of that performance! Zenit will be tough to beat here though as they're very used to winning at home. I think a draw may be on the cards and would be surprised to see either team win by more than a goal. Prediction: 1-1

Napoli v Salzburg

After winning in Austria, you'd expect Napoli to also win this match, though Salzburg and specifically Haaland seem guaranteed to score in every match they play. I always feel a bit cautious about picking lots of goals when it seems so obvious, as it feels like the chain must end soon, but it really is difficult to see this one ending 0-0. Prediction: 4-2

Liverpool v Genk

Liverpool's 1-4 win away at Genk in the last round shows that this should be straightforward for the Premier League leaders. They have a massive game against Manchester City this weekend but it's City who play a day later in this competition and away from home (in Italy) so I doubt Klopp will be too worried about player rotation. Clean sheets have been rare for the Reds so far this season but I'm picking one here as they should be looking for a solid defensive display to help with confidence before Sunday. Prediction: 3-0

Dortmund v Inter

After Inter's win in Round 3, we're set for a very tight finish between these two in Group F! Dortmund have looked OK in games since that defeat but Inter also continue to look very solid under Conte. I think the visitors can make sure they don't lose this game which would be a great result since Dortmund are the team that still has to go the Camp Nou in this group stage. Prediction: 1-1

Lyon v Benfica

This was the game that really frustrated me in Round 3 since my 1-1 pick was all set to be Exact before the Lyon goalkeeper decided to just throw the ball straight to a Benfica forward for a late winner. I expect another tight affair this time around but Lyon can be considered favourites at home. The French side have plenty of attacking players that can hurt Benfica. Prediction: 2-0

Chelsea v Ajax

Chelsea's performance in Amsterdam was very impressive. If they put in a similar display here, they'll win again, but it's rarely that simple. There'll be a strange atmosphere at Stamford Bridge as UEFA have banned Ajax fans from attending this match due to issues at a previous UCL game in Valencia but it's hard to tell if that'll have an effect. I think the intelligence Chelsea showed off the ball when playing this Ajax team away was key and that could just give them the edge again here. Three points for either side would put them in a very commanding position in the group. Prediction: 2-1

Valencia v Lille

Lille peppered the Valencia goal in the reverse of this fixture but could still only manage a 1-1 draw at home. With that in mind, I think Valencia are the more clinical, experienced Champions League side who can win this match. Prediction: 1-0

Bayern v Olympiacos

Bayern begin life without Niko Kovac in this game following his sacking after a 5-1 defeat at Frankfurt last weekend. Though Bayern made hard work of their away game at Olympiacos, Champions League results weren't the issue for Kovac and I expect them to maintain their 100% winning start to the competition here. It will be fascinating to see who they eventually appoint to succeed him. Prediction: 3-0

Lokomotiv v Juventus

The game in Turin between these two was far closer than I anticipated meaning I'm a little more cautious about this pick. You still have to back Juve to win but they're clearly going to need to perform better than they did at home. There haven't been too many high-scoring games involving Juve since Sarri took the reigns and this could be a similar scoreline to the one they managed in Saturday's derby. Prediction: 0-1

PSG v Club Brugge

We can't judge them properly until we see how they perform in the knockout stages, but this PSG team looks very, very good this season. After a 0-5 away win at Brugge, this could be any score! I've been very impressed with Paris and anything other than a comfortable win would be a surprise. Prediction: 4-0

Real Madrid v Galatasaray

Like most people, I'm still not quite sure what to think about Real Madrid this season but they should win this game. A 0-1 win in Turkey was a good result and Galatasaray should be far easier to beat at home than they are away. Prediction: 2-0

Red Star v Tottenham

Red Star are far better at home than they are away but it's still pretty mind-blowing to think they beat Olympiacos in Round 2 given how terrible they were at Tottenham last week. I know Spurs have been awful on the road but given how easy it was for them in the reverse of this fixture, anything other than a win here would be very disappointing for Pochettino and his side. Prediction: 1-2

Dinamo v Shakhtar

I was impressed with Dinamo's performance and result in Ukraine so now feel as though they can beat Shakhtar at home. That 4-0 home win over Atalanta is an encouraging sign and this Shakhtar team doesn't appear to be as strong as they have been in previous Champions League seasons. Prediction: 3-1

Atalanta v Manchester City

Atalanta were of course well beaten at the Etihad but you'd think they can be at least slightly more competitive at home, particularly since City will have one eye on their Premier League clash with Liverpool this weekend. Guardiola's men are already in a very strong position in this group and whilst I'll be picking them to win, I think it will be pretty close with City below their best. Prediction: 1-2

Leverkusen v Atletico Madrid

I almost always pick Atletico to win their matches 1-0 in our La Liga predictor game but I feel as though Leverkusen can score in this one. I was tempted to go for a draw because Atletico are hardly setting the world alight this season but Leverkusen's UCL campaign has been poor with that opening loss to Lokomotiv proving very costly. Prediction: 1-2
