SuperBru is new to most of the playing community this year, and it's different from every other tipping game out there. Here are the answers to a few of the questions we hear most often:
- Is SuperBru a fantasy game?
- Is SuperBru really free?
- Is there a prize?
- What should be my goal in playing a SuperBru tournament?
- May I play in more than one pool in a particular tournament?
- Who is Ken and what is his function?
- How late can I make my picks?
- What happens if I forget to make my picks?
- Is SuperBru a South African game?
- Who runs SuperBru?
- Why is there no SuperBru Tri-Nations?
1. Is SuperBru a fantasy game?
No. At least not in the sense of the fantasy games in which you are required to put together a team of players and are rewarded with points depending on how those players perform. SuperBru is purely a results prediction game: you predict the outcome of games.
2. Is SuperBru really free?
For now, yes. We will maintain a free version of the game as long as we run it, but may introduce payment for advanced features (e.g. messageboards, statistics, pool creation) in the future - we are evaluating this.
3. Is there a prize?
At this stage, all global winners and runners-up of tournaments will win personalised, unique coffee mugs. We do not have the resources to offer more substantial prizes; but don't be put off - the fun in SuperBru is the journey, not the outcome - trust us. If you would like to sponsor a prize in return for advertising, please email us at admin@superbru.com.
4. What should be my goal in playing a SuperBru tournament?
Part of the beauty of SuperBru is that you can have many goals. We recommend you aim to win your pool: this is the most achievable and easily the most fun aspect of the game. But, if you're good, you'll be in with a chance in the global leaderboard and you may want to focus on that. Lastly, the pool-vs-pool element is a new aspect that cuts things differently and may drag you in a different direction of loyalties...
5. May I play in more than one pool in a particular tournament?
Nope. This year, it's one player, one pool. In the future (2007+) we will look at ways of accommodating this. At the moment the only way to do it is to register twice with different email addresses.
6. Who is Ken and what is his function?
Ken is the chairman of Colonials' Café, and you may spot this little fellow playing in your pool. He's too young to play officially, so he helpfully inputs the bookies' predictions and enables you to see how you're doing against them. He may even inspire you to make a bet or two. He does not in any way affect the scoring.
7. How late can I make my picks?
We keep picking open until 30 minutes before kick-off of any game. After that, you're too late.
8. What happens if I forget to make my picks?
We kindly make picks for you up to a threshold (dependent on your tournament). Generally you are allocated the home team (or in World Cups, the team favoured by the bookies). You do not qualify for Margin Points, Bonus Points or Grand Slam Points. The threshold is set at around 20% of the games for a tournament, but please do check the individual rules of each tournament in this regard.
9. Is SuperBru a South African game?
Interestingly, a lot of our Kiwi players are under the impression that SuperBru is 'the SA virtual super 14'. Whilst SuperBru was invented and incubated by South Africans in London, it has been a global game since the early days.
10. Who runs SuperBru?
SuperBru is operated by Nevado Limited, based in London. The General and Craig - known to some as Baku - are in charge of administration of the site. Several other shady characters contribute manfully to the SuperBru process.
11. Why is there no SuperBru Tri-Nations?
The Tri-Nations only has 9 games, and SuperBru is really suited to tournaments with quite a few more than that. However, if demand is strong enough we'll consider it in 2007.
